Custom MX and A Records
What is an A record? What is an MX record? What are their functions within the Domain Name System?
Every single registered domain has no less than two Name Server records which show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain address to the servers of a particular website hosting company. In this way, you've got both your website and your emails managed by the exact same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are lots of other records, like A and MX. The former shows which server deals with the site for a given domain name and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one indicates which server handles the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For instance, when you type a domain in your browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain uses and from there you will be directed to the servers of another company if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having independent records for the site and the emails suggests that you can have your site and your emails with 2 different providers if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Web Hosting
If you have a
Linux shared web hosting service through our company, you will be able to see, set up and modify any A or MX record for your domain names. As long as a given domain name has our Name Servers, you'll be able to change specific records using our Hepsia hosting CP and have your site or emails pointed to another service provider if you want to use only one of our services. Our innovative tool is going to enable you to have a domain name hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted somewhere else by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain address at all. If you want to use the e-mail services of another provider and they want you to set up more than 2 MX records, you can easily do that with just a few mouse clicks within the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. Also you can set different latency for each MX record i.e. which one will have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting
The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with our
Linux semi-dedicated hosting services, will enable you to view the A and MX records for every one of the domains or subdomains in your account and if necessary, to edit any of them or create new ones. Controlling these records is very easy because all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so updating a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes a few more clicks and if you experience any issues, you can check out our video tutorials on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by people with little or no previous experience, yet advanced enough to provide you with 100 % control of all records and to allow you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're moving your e-mails to a different company and they ask you to set up more than 2 different MX records, you may choose the priority of each one.
