Get familiar with e-mail spam filters, the things they do and how you can enable them.
A spam filter is a software app that hinders unasked-for emails from reaching a given inbox. A huge percentage of the email communication around the world consists of spam emails: offers for pills or money, fraudulent banking notifications, etc. For this reason, it is rather important to use email filters to avoid not only unsolicited bulk emails, but also any possibility of being conned in some way. Filters detect various things, so as to deliver higher levels of protection – specific words and phrases or the frequency with which they occur in the text, the sender’s email address, or the IP address of the sender’s SMTP mail server. Hosting companies often use the services of 3rd-party spam-detecting organizations that offer up-to-date databases to render email filtering easier and more efficient without affecting genuine emails, even if they comprise suspicious words.
Spam Filters in Shared Web Hosting
Our shared web hosting
servers use one of the best spam filters out there. It’s called SpamAssassin and is included with each plan, so if you host your domains with our company, you can opt for one of the five safety levels that the filter offers for any mailbox that you’ve got here. You can do this with just two clicks of the mouse from the Email Manager section of the Hepsia Control Panel that is used to manage all shared hosting accounts. SpamAssassin ‘scans’ the header section and the content of every email message, gives it a spam score and then continues in accordance with the level that you have picked. Each email account can have a different level and you can select whether the email messages that the spam filter labels as spam should be erased or forwarded to a separate email account where you can review them at a later point in time, so as to avoid deleting an authentic email. Switching to some other level or disabling the anti-spam protection is also exceptionally easy.
Spam Filters in Semi-dedicated Hosting
In case you use one of our Linux semi-dedicated hosting services
, you won’t need to worry about unsolicited bulk emails occupying your mailboxes all the time, as you can resort to the famous SpamAssassin email filter that we provide with every account. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel will allow you to enable the filter for any email account with a couple of mouse clicks and you can choose one of the five security levels – from very high to very low. The level can be altered at any time if, for example, legitimate emails get filtered, or if unsolicited bulk messages go through and reach your Inbox folder. To take no chances, you can choose all filtered email messages to be re-sent to a special email account such as firstname.lastname@example.org and not to be erased. Thus, you can examine them from time to time to make sure that you haven’t missed a genuine email.
